Previous years participants came from over 30 countries and included professionals, academics and students.
Do I need to be available everyday during programme dates?
Yes! We want to make the most use of our ten-days with our participants, faculty and guests. The schedule will be packed with seminars, studio time, tutorials, guest lectures, panel discussions and exhibits. You are expected not to have work/study commitments during the period of the workshop.
What is the format of the programme?
The Visiting School consists of:
- Studio Design Units: Participants will choose from multiple offered units which are led by AA Jordan Faculty. Each unit will focus on a specific subset of the overall workshop theme, within a specific scale – ranging between Material, Architectural, and Urban. Participants will be able to research natural phenomena and processes towards a specific design application. Each unit may use a range of different digital and physical techniques.
- Specialist Seminars: Advanced Software Seminars in computational design technologies which involve parametrics and scripting. Additionally, Advanced Fabrication Seminars for the use of Digital Fabrication Technologies.
- Guest Programme Series: Distinguished International Architects and Academics are invited to deliver guest lectures. The Lecture Series will be announced in the events section.
- Site Visits/Travel: Exclusive visits to sites relevant to the course of the workshop (Petra and Wadi Rum Desert)
Do I need to have prior knowledge of advanced software like Rhino, GrassHopper, Python, Maya, etc.?
Not necessarily, we run parallel sessions for beginners and intermediate/advanced - therefore we teach everything from the beginning to bring everyone to the same level. We know how to help you become an expert and it is all design based so you will have interesting outputs right from the start. Software you learn will be based on the design unit you opt for – each unit will use the relevant tools for its brief.
Do you offer accommodation for the duration of the course?
The course fees do not include accommodation as many participants are local. However there are also many international participants therefore we work with local hotels to obtain a group discounted rate and arrange for you to share a room with another international participants to save costs - private rooms also available.
